3 x Acrylic Paintings done on Framed Canvases.
Hobart - "Painted using only the traditional colours, this piece is done in the old style circular art. Painted using acrylics on a canvas frame it measures 35cm x 45cm (about 14 x 18ins.) A cheering colourful piece it comes complete with story explaining the meanings of the symbols. 'This is obviously a traditional style painting, done in the traditional earth colours. It depicts my home town Hobart in our traditional symbols. The Derwent river is of course depicted as a snake. Our ancestors believed that the Rainbow Serpent was the great ancestral spirit who created rivers & creeks; after all they snake across the landscape. The bigger mountain is Mt. Wellington; the smaller one Mt. Direction. These rise straight from the banks of the river on both sides. Mt. Wellington is well known. Its smaller cousin, so named because it is directly opposite Mt. Wellington for some reason is usually over-looked though both in my opinion give Hobart its distinct beauty. Spiral art is the original art form used in Tasmania; though in more recent times it is not commonly used.......................(extract of story). Artist is Tassie Terry, paintings comes complete with hooks ready to hang.
Rosella Dreaming - Pretty Colours! - Double Dot Art! Acyrlic paint on framed canvas. This painting "tells the story of the birds using tradition symbols....Australia has many colourful Rosellas. The one depicted in this painting is the Eastern Rosella, native to south east Australia and northern Tasmania. It is probably the best known of our rosella and one of the most colourful. Its magnificent colours are depicted both in the background and in the multiple dot work. Study of the details reveals many aspects of the bird's life. It is shown nesting in the hollow of a tree, flying to and fro water holes, gathering seed, flying in flocks. As is customary with our paintings, white dots represent dreaming..........(extract of story) Measures 40 x 30cms. Bright, cheerful painting. Ready to hang - includes story signed by the artist T.Terry.
The Square Place - Sacred to the Wanaruah .A very unusual piece! As one of the most sacred sites to exist in our families land was known as ""The Square Place"" this work features do work done not in traditional circles but in squares. Few authentic Aboriginal paintings can be done in squares! Naturally it is painted using only the natural earth traditional colours. Acrylic paint on a canvas frame, with string ready to hang, it measures 15.5in (39cm) x 20in (51cm). Comes signed with this detailed story: "One of the ancient sites of the Wanaruah Nation is called the Square Place. Where is the Square Place? It's a sacred site so my lips are sealed; but of course I will give you some clues............... It is in the mountains up past where the ancients speak of the rock that swallows up disobedient children and the rock that was split into two by the creation beings at the time the Rainbow Serpent doubled back on itself forming a swamp that became a rich feeding and hunting ground.......... Perhaps you have noticed that many of my squares aren't totally square. That's deliberate. Wanaruah people aren't "square" we're "groovy"! (extract of story) This painting has been widely exhibited around the Hunter Valley area. It would be a good piece to add to any collection of aboriginal art.
