Our Fathers' Agony is inspired by an important historical event called "The Roundup" in which almost all Tasmanian Aborigines were forcably removed from their homeland & exciled to Flinders Island, which lead to their almost extermination. Tasmanian artist Tassie Terry has including a details story about her feeling about this event, it's lasting legacy & the meaning of every symbol of this painting. In view of the genocides which occured in the 20th century & are unfortunately still occuring this painting contains an important message for all people in this 21st century.
Our Fathers Agony is done with mixed medium on board & measures 36in x 32in. (83x92cm) It is framed ready to hang. Tasmanian art is only now getting discovered (& this painting is as authentic in style & story as it is possible to be) so this is excellent investment art & also a great conversation piece - read message in boxes - photos do not do this painting justice.
Large Painting with a Modern Message
Our Culture and Dreamtime
This is the story as told by the artist "To some extent I wish this painting to be interpreted by Aboriginal persons in their own way. Dreamtime started with the earth being formed in the distant past, it continues on into eternity. For me Dreamtime is a happy time. Our culture had its origins early in human history & will continue into the indefinite future. The negatives to which much of Aboriginal society has found itself are displayed in this painting, but are shown as just a point in the stream of time. Ever mark & dot in this painting has significance; its story is complex. It reflects my spiritual & religious beliefs as an Aboriginal Australian in this 21 century, & the optimism for our future these beliefs give me." Mixed Medium, unframed on paper, it measures 51 x 63cms
Cave Art stencils are the oldest known art in the world. Australia (Tasmania) has among the oldest known. T.Terry has been inspired to create modern replics using modern materials. Beautifully professionally framed Measures 18.5in x 15.5in or (47x40cm) & comes with a nice signed story, explaining traditional customs & beliefs about cave art stencils on the back. This elegantly framed painting would complement most modern homes or offices & certainly complete any collection of aboriginal art as this style although being being the oldest & traditional is often over looked by the serious collector of Australian original art. Few modern Aboriginal artists produce works for sale in this style.
